Adult Acne: Causes and Cures
Need more information on this topic?
Adult acne is more common than many people think. In fact, one in five women between the ages of 25 and 40 are affected by adult acne. If you’re prone to breakouts you can stop hiding behind your makeup – Caci can help.
What causes Acne?
There are three primary factors that influence the growth of acne:
Hyperkeratinisation: An overabundance of surface skin cells that clump together, clogging pores.
Sebum activity: Sebaceous glands influenced by androgen hormones elevate oil (sebum) production.
P-Acnes bacteria: Bacteria mixes with the oil, irritating pores resulting in inflammation and infection.
Triggers of Acne
There are many triggers for outbreaks of adult acne. These include hormones, medications, stress, genetics, environmental factors and cosmetics.
While you may not be able to eliminate triggers, you can minimise the effects they have on your skin.
Professional care: Regular professional treatments can help keep pores clean and prevent future breakouts. Caci recommends the Murad Clarifying Enzyme Facial, Light Therapy and exfoliating treatments such as Microdermabrasion.
Choose a good skincare regime: Deep clean and remove pore-clogging dead skin cells and debris with pore cleansers and exfoliants containing Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid and Retinol. Caci recommend Murad’s Acne Complex® Kit.
Good nutrition is essential for healthy skin: Drink lots of water and eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and nutrients rich in Vitamin A to help normalise the production of dead skin cells, a key factor in acne breakouts. For further insurance against nasty breakouts support your diet with internal supplements like Murad’s Pure Skin® Dietary Clarifying Supplement. It is clinically proven to reduce acne breakouts by 55% in six weeks.
Good hygiene: To prevent harmful bacteria populating, regularly change pillow cases and towels, replace makeup sponges and sterilize brushes.
