Botox®

Does getting BOTOX® hurt?
Lots and lots of people have a fear of needles. I think it is probably a very basic instinct and therefore quite normal and understandable. The needles used for BOTOX® are a bit like acupuncture needles – ie very small and fine. Most people find the treatment uncomfortable rather than painful, and usually the discomfort is much less than they expect. The trade off in terms of results makes any discomfort well worth it. The thing to remember about BOTOX® is that it is a very quick and simple treatment to perform so any discomfort is over and done with quite quickly.
BOTOX® – isn’t it a toxin?
BOTOX® (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is made from a modified protein. Yes it is a toxin, but most medicines are potential toxins. Toxicity is about the dose, or how much is used. Many things that are safe for humans in small doses are toxic in high doses. For example salt or sugar. In small doses BOTOX® is very safe and has a therapeutic effect. It would be too expensive to give somebody enough BOTOX® for it to be Toxic!
How much does Botox® cost?
It depends on what you want to achieve and the areas of the face you wish to treat. A Cosmetic Nurse Specialist will consult with you and advise on the costs and doses you require. As a guide, an initial treatment for frown lines will be around $380. Caci have designed the Amerase™ program to make Botox® more affordable. This treatment program offers easy weekly payment options from just $22.50 a week. Learn more about Amerase™ here.

How long does Botox® last?
The effects of Botox® last approximately 3 – 4 months but this varies between people. Most people find that with regular treatment the effect lasts longer.
Is BOTOX® right for me?
It’s not about looking younger; it’s about looking great for your age (at Caci we like to call this 'positive ageing'). More and more people discovering that BOTOX® helps them look them look fresher. If you are thinking that you look more tired than you feel or if your frown lines make you look worried or cross, then BOTOX® may be for you.

When you relax some muscles with BOTOX®, do other muscles get stronger and can you get new lines or wrinkles?
BOTOX® affects only the muscles that it is injected in to. It would be very unusual for new lines to develop.
Is BOTOX® from rat poison or snake venom?
BOTOX® is a purified protein that is created in a laboratory setting. It does not come from another animal, but a specific type of bacteria is involved in its production, in much the same way as penicillin is derived from mould. The point to make is that there are lots of rumours about BOTOX® and most of them aren’t true. BOTOX® used for Cosmetic purposes uses tiny doses 10-50units, where as when BOTOX® is used for therapeutic purposes such as for treating muscle spasm in children with cerebral palsy, several hundred units are frequently used. The implication being that if it is safe for a 4 year old to have 200units for example then it is certainly safe for an adult to have 30 units.
Will BOTOX® make my look frozen like some of the celebrities?
This is a common concern. The large majority of my clients do not tell anyone – not even their husbands. There are thousands and thousands of women (and men) who have had Botox® and nobody knows because it has had a very natural effect. Everybody wants a different look so while it is possible to achieve that frozen look with BOTOX® most New Zealand women opt for a softer more natural look.

Freedom - Laser Hair Removal

Can I continue to have other treatments, such as facials, BOTOX®?
Yes, the VPL ENERGIST Ultra System works very well when used in conjunction with other treatment modalities. It is simply a matter of appropriate timing.
Does hair need to be a certain length before it can be treated?
Hair has to be a certain length before it can sucessfully removed  (at least 1-2mm). However if you are unsure, your treatment provider can advise you and hair can be trimmed prior to treatment if needed.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
The sensation varies from person to person and between body areas. Some people feel nothing, some feel a heat sensation, and some have likened the sensation to mild stinging or the flicking of a rubber band. Generally the coarser or thicker the hair, the greater the sensation. Some clients may experience a temporary skin response ranging from mild redness to, rarely, blistering. There is also a very rare risk of scarring occuring. During your consultation, your laser consultant will fully explain the process, expectations and cost of your Freedom program treatment plan, and will also advise you of any risks associated with this treatment.
What results can I expect from laser hair removal?
You will start to see results after your second or third treatment. Because you see yourself everyday it is difficult for you to see gradual improvements taking place. Individual results may vary. The human body is so superbly designed, it is impossible to remove 100% of unwanted hair -but using this system we can remove up to 98% in some clients. The average person can expect at least 80% removal, however, this is dependant on age, type of hair, hormone levels, some medical conditions, and some medications. (We note that over 90% of western European and American women use some form of hair removal regularly, ranging from plucking, shaving, waxing, depilatory creams, electrolysis to lasers or VPLs). We can show you testimonials, and “before and after” photographs.
How many laser hair removal treatments can I have?
There are no maximum amount of treatments that may be undertaken.
How often do I need laser hair removal treatments?
After the initial treatment it is advisable to have a second treatment four to six weeks later. The hair can only be removed when it is in its active growing stage; therefore a series of treatments is required to catch the hairs in this cycle.
What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?
This procedure works well on the face, neck, chest, arms, back, underarms, legs, stomach and bikini line / brazillian.
How does it work?
The light output from the applicator is preferentially absorbed by the melanin in the hair. This then heats up the hair follicle and disables it so it cannot grow back.

How does microdermabrasion work?
Microdermabrasion gently removes the outer skin layer promoting by blowing crystals into the skin under pressure and suctioning them away. This process removes dead skin cells and encourages circulation to the treated skin resulting in improved skin and promoting cell renewal.
What happens during microdermabrasion?
Before treatment, your skin will be cleaned to remove any dirt, makeup, and surface oils, and you’ll be given protective eyewear. A small handheld device is used to spray fine crystals at the skin and simultaneously vacuum them up. The crystals help loosen and remove dead skin cells, bacteria, and other debris from your face. A product will then be applied to keep skin hydrated. Afterward, your skin may be flushed, and it may feel a little like you got sunburned, but that should go away within 24 hours.
How does microdermabrasion feel?
ou will feel a slightly abrasive sensation like a fingernail lightly scratching against the skin, as well as localised suction from the hand piece vacuuming away the dead skin cells.
Can I wear makeup after a microdermabrasion?
It is okay to use make up but we do not recommend it. Mineral-based makeup is most comfortable since it can be brushed onto the skin rather than being rubbed in.
How does collagen induction work?
Collagen Induction uses a dermal roller - a surgical instrument comprising of fine micro-needles. These needles cause micro-wounds within the dermis layer of the skin. The skin reacts to these by producing collagen. Over a course of treatments collagen fibres strengthen and elasticity is increased.
What is the downtime involved in collagen induction?
One of the benefits of this program is that downtime is minimal and the process is fairly painless. Following the treatment, your skin will be red and puffy, so you might prefer to go home rather than back to the office.
