makeupTo look great for your age a fresh, glowing complexion is essential. Quality skincare products and  treatments will help you acheieve great skin but all that effort and investment could be wasted if your makeup is sabotaging your look.

Simple makeup mistakes can add many unwanted years to your face. Learn how to enhance your natural beauty with makeup and maintain a youthful look.

Dry = old
Dry, flaky skin will instantly age you. A moisturiser suited to your skin type is essential for keeping your face looking and feeling fresh and hydrated all day long. Opt for a moisturiser with an SPF to keep your skin looking young – 80% of skin ageing can be attributed to that sun’s rays.

Less is more
Surprisingly less coverage will help you to look younger. Heavy foundation can in fact highlight wrinkles as it settles into the lines on your skin. Use concealer to cover dark circles under the eyes and blemishes but if you feel you need more coverage, use a lightweight tinted moisturiser or sweep your skin with a hydrating powder.

Shimmer down
Leave the glittery makeup to the girls. Frosted, shimmery eye shadow may be on trend but it will only enhance any fine lines and creppiness around the eyes.  Opt for warm brown and beige tones in a matte finish that enhance your natural colouring.

Eyebrow Attention
Many women neglect their eyebrows, but faded, thinning eyebrows immediately age your face. Touch them up with a pencil or powder the colour of your natural hair.

Luscious Lips
Choose a hydrating lipstick that will keep your lips moisturised throughout the day. Long-wearing lipsticks are best avoided as they can be drying, while thick glosses are best left for younger women. If you have fine lines around your mouth, avoid bright or very dark lipsticks that will draw attention to the area.

Blush Up
As we age our face loses its volume and the apples of your cheeks sit lower. Instead of highlighting this area, lightly brush your higher cheekbone structure to draw the eye upwards.

Makeup Masterclass
If you’re still feeling unsure about application techniques and the best colours for your face, ask the experts. Most department stores and large pharmacies have beauty counters with staff who will be more than happy to offer advice.
