I Tried Microneedling For My Pigmentation and These Were the Results

Caci Digital Marketing & Communications Manager, Tessa lets us in on her quest to reduce her pigmentation and what she thinks of our newly launched Exceed Microneedling treatment. Just check out those results!

I've found it. The holy grail of skin treatments. The pigment banisher I'll dub it. Adios pigmentation, and you too acne scarring. Uneven texture and tone? I'll see you to the door.

Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy)

Microneedling. She's been the it-girl in the skincare world over the last half decade and there's a reason for it too. This treatment manages to do a whole lot for the skin in just a handful of treatments. Benefits include pretty much everything you could really want when it comes to those trickier skin concerns, including:

  • Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

  • Improved skin tone and texture

  • Reduced appearance of pitted acne scarring and hyperpigmentation as a result of acne scarring

  • Reduced appearance of hyperpigmentation as a result of sun damage

How it feels

First things first, the question everyone wants to know. In my opinion, no it doesn't hurt. Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy) feels like small scratches repeatedly moving across your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. One of my male colleagues described it felt like he was just having his weekly shave—but all over his face. Can't relate to that one but I'd say it probably does feel relatively similar.

Post treatment, your skin will likely become inflammed and sensitive to touchthis is good. Inflammation is an important part of the process.

3 hours post treatment. Skin is flushed and sensitive but not painful.

How it works

Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy) works by sending tiny, tiny needles down into the dermis of the skin, triggering the body's own wound-healing response. This in turn gives your body the signal to get to work. You need new skin to fix this 'trauma' your current skin has experienced. The result? Stronger, healthier skin thanks to the new baby collagen, and all the other goodness, your body has just created for you.

The Results

They speak for themselves. From the first treatment, my skin texture and tone noticeably improved revealing much healthier-looking skin. By my second treatment, I noticed that the Melasma (hormonal pigmentation) around my under eye area had broken up into small patches and the majority of it had faded from looking like I'd had a serious amount of smudged brown eye shadow underneath my eyes, to a light dusting of bronzer that had caught the upper part of my cheek bone just a bit too much.

Fast forward to treatment three, I was treated with the new Exceed Microneedling pen. I noticed serious results which wasn't surprising as this medical device is FDA approved and clinically proven. I was treated on Tuesday evening and when I woke on the Friday morning, results were clear.

I have a habit of reviewing my skin every morning in the mirror to assess the results of the products I applied the night before—and to observe any pesky breakouts or congestion that might be coming through. It's also a time where I check in with how my skin is feeling and what it needs. Based on how dry or oily it is, I adjust my routine accordingly. This morning when I woke, I knew the Microneedling was starting to do its thing! The texture and tone of my skin was a lot smoother and my complexion more even. Congestion and redness around my chin had subsided and those annoying hyperpigmented scars left over from my hormonal breakouts looked like little tiny red dots at this stage.

Fast forward a week and I woke to assess how my pigmentation was getting on. The Melasma that resembled a light dusting of bronzer on my cheek bone? I could hardly find it. Take a look for yourself below. (Ft. one pesky breakout on my chin because #realskin).
