Beauty Writer from Sans Pareil Online, Robecca Leyden lets us in on her favourite skin treatment at Caci - Photo Rejuvenation.
If you’re like me, you love both a treatment and a treatment that gives instant results. That’s why I love - looooove the Photo Rejuvenation Treatment at Caci. This isn’t your usual, run-of-the-mill treatment. As a beauty writer for many years I’ve tried a lot of treatments and I can honestly say, this is one of my favourites.
What exactly is Photo Rejuvenation and how does it work?
Photo Rejuvenation is a treatment that uses pulsed light to target specific skin concerns. It sends high-energy light beams deep into your skin, where it focuses on melanin (the pigment responsible for your skin colour) and oxy-hemoglobin (the red part of your blood). These two components are usually the culprits behind pigmentation issues and vascular concerns, like dark spots, redness, and broken capillaries.
What I love about Photo Rejuvenation is that it’s highly targeted—so if you’re someone like me, with stubborn dark spots from sun exposure or diffused redness, this treatment is going to be your new best friend.
Why I Decided To Try It (And Why You Should Consider It Too)
I’ve always been a fair-skinned person—basically translucent in the winter months—but still, like many people, I’ve accumulated some dark spots and hyperpigmentation over the years. A combination of too much sun exposure has left me with uneven skin tone that even the best concealers couldn’t fully cover.
After hearing rave reviews and amazing transformations thanks to Photo Rejuvenation, I was curious to see if it could really make a difference in my skin. And that’s exactly what this treatment did for me! The fact that it targets both pigmentation and blood vessels means it’s a double-threat for common skin concerns.
How Does It Feel During The Treatment?
Let’s talk about the experience itself. I’ll be upfront—Photo Rejuvenation isn’t exactly the type of treatment where you can kick back and unwind. The treatment involves pulsed light that targets stubborn dark spots and pigmentation, and depending on your skin's sensitivity, it can feel like a quick, sharp snap of heat —kind of like a hot rubber band flicking against your skin.
For me, I’m definitely one of those people who jumps at the slightest surprise, so each flash of light felt like a mini “jump scare.” But don’t let that put you off! The discomfort is really short-lived, and the best part is that the staff at the clinic were amazing—super supportive and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. They carefully timed the pulses to match my tolerance, so I never felt overwhelmed.
How I felt after my Photo Rejuvenation?
Right after the treatment, your skin may appear a little red, almost like you’ve had a mild sunburn. Some experience slight swelling for up to 4-5 days, particularly if capillaries and red veins have been treated. Personally, my skin is slightly red for about 20 minutes after that and that’s it!
Don't forget that your skin will be a bit vulnerable afterward, so it’s essential to protect it with sunscreen. After all, you’re addressing sun damage, so keep your skin shielded from more exposure! I recommend a broad-spectrum like Murad’s City Skin Broad Spectrum SPF 50. It’s lightweight, non-greasy, and provides excellent protection while nourishing your skin.
After a few hours I noticed that my dark spots darkened slightly, and while it looked a little intense at first, this was actually a good sign. It meant the treatment was pulling those pigmented cells to the surface, where they would eventually slough off over the next few days. In the days following the treatment, the dark spots began to form a “crust” that but this is actually the skin cells expelling the unwanted pigmentation. This can last from 3 days to 3 weeks, until these spots move to the surface of the skin and flake off.
The Best Time To Get Photo Rejuvenation
Caci only offer Photo Rejuvenation only during the cooler months of the year. Why do they avoid Photo Rejuvenation in the summer? When your skin is exposed to the sun's rays, damage is done to the tissue. To further protect the skin from the sun - your skin produces more melanin, therefore giving the skin a darker colour. This technically means that the skin has received a small amount of damage and needs heal again before photo rejuvenation can be applied to the skin, as the skin is extra vulnerable. So, book your treatments ahead of time and use the off-peak months to get your skin ready for summer!
Absolutely. After my own experience with Photo Rejuvenation, I can say with confidence that this treatment is a must-try for anyone struggling with dark spots, pigmentation, or uneven skin tone. It’s effective, and the results are undeniably visible.
