The Science Behind Redness

Redness happens when blood vessels near the skin's surface widen and increase blood flow in response to a trigger. That trigger could be heat, UV, stress, certain products or even just a change in temperature. When the skin barrier is compromised, it becomes more reactive and the redness gets harder to calm down on its own.


For some people it is occasional and settles quickly. For others, like those with rosacea, the vessels stay dilated and the skin loses its ability to self-regulate. It is not just sensitive skin, it is a condition, and it responds really well when it is treated as one.
