Any beauty fanatic worth their weight in glow will know that the secret to healthy, glowing skin will not be found in the pan of a highlighter palette. That’s not to say that a bit of help from our old friend make-up won’t help you, but when it comes to that true lit-from-within glow we are all seeking it's a combination of patience, practice and product.

Here is our in-depth guide to achieving the dewiest skin in all the land.

What is glowing skin?

Getting a complexion that looks like a glazed donut may not be easy, but it is possible. With the right amount of at-home products, lifestyle changes and a healthy dose of facials, you’ll be on your road to glow in no time. Skincare is undoubtedly the name of the game when it comes to glowy skin, and while makeup absolutely has a time and place, it cannot do all of the hard work for you.

How do you get glowing skin?

Like most things in life (annoyingly) there is not a single solution to the equation, and unfortunately, no two faces are created quite the same. This means you need to get to know your skin, what it needs and what it doesn’t like to truly be successful on your quest to glowing skin.

Know your skin type

First things first, you’ve got to walk before you can run etc etc. You’ve got to do some research and identify what skin type you have. This way you’ll be able to identify more clearly what you need and what’s superfluous to requirements in terms of skincare and treatments. Once you’ve identified your skin type, you can tailor your approach accordingly. And trust us when we tell you, this will save you a lot of time down the road! If you’re struggling to figure out what skin type you have, pop into your local Caci Clinic and talk to one of our expert staff who will be able to point you in the right direction.

Glow from within

A healthy diet

While maintaining a healthy diet in our increasingly busy lives can seem like an impossible task, when it comes to healthy skin it’s basically a non-negotiable we’re afraid. Don’t underestimate the power a healthy and balanced diet can have on the overall appearance of your skin. Vitamins and fatty acids in food can help to produce new, healthy skin cells see our article on foods that help brighten dull skin for some more info!

Foods that are high in fats like avocados are great for glow, as well as antioxidant-rich foods like berries, and green tea.

Supplements

Supplements can also be the ultimate lazy gal hack for ensuring you are getting adequate amounts of certain vitamins and minerals into your diet. They can also, in turn, help you get the glow you’ve always wanted. Vitamin A for example is known to have anti-inflammatory effects, zinc encourages healing and can help protect against bacteria. Vitamins C and E produce collagen and support immunity.

If you’re suffering from breakouts, it’s highly recommended to take a skin supplement. The Skinsmiths Blemish Defence Supplements are scientifically created with blemish-busting in mind, harnessing a powerful blend of vitamins, minerals and antioxidant extracts that all have the sole aim of supporting healthy, glowing skin.

Stay hydrated

If you are dehydrated, then your skin will ultimately tell the world! Experts recommend drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day to keep that dry, dull complexion at bay as well as a suite of other health benefits. Try getting a fun emotional support water bottle that you can lug around with you everywhere to make sure you’re getting your sips in!

Beauty sleep

Just like our skin can show dehydration, it can also show a lack of sleep. As we sleep, our body replenishes essential nutrients and removes excess fluid and toxins. Sleeping 7-9 hours a night is recommended, we also suggest changing your pillowcases regularly to avoid the build-up of bacteria.

As we creep into our late 20s our specific skincare needs may start to change from person to person. Some of us will start to see visible lines depending on how expressive we are, while for some the SPF, cleanser, and moisturiser ritual will see them through until their 30s. It’s important to be aware of your own skin and what it needs to transition through this stage of life.

Find the right skincare for you

Ok now onto the fun stuff. When it comes to making a considerable change to the appearance of your skin, skincare is absolutely where you should be focusing your energy. While getting products that work for your skin specifically can be challenging, it’s important that you’re getting the basics right. So here are our top tips for building up your skincare routine:

Cleansing

While cleansers might not sound as exciting as your favourite treatment, mask or serum, they truly are the unsung hero of the skincare world. They are the best way to remove dirt, oil and other unwanted nasties that build up on the skin and can lead to breakouts and congestion. They also ensure that all those more exciting products can penetrate the skin properly and do an even better job of making you a glowing goddess.

If you’re wanting an even deeper cleanse, try double cleansing! You can start with an oil cleanser, and then finish with a hydrating cleanser.

SPF

“But I never burn!”. Doesn’t matter who you are, what age you are or what tone your natural skin colour is - if you’re not applying SPF daily, no amount of skincare in the world will be able to undo the damage of that big ol’ orb in the sky.

It’s number one on pretty much every skin-related blog on the Caci website for a reason, it truly is the most crucial step in any person's regime. Not only does sunscreen stop you from getting burnt, and although that is definitely a huge upside, it also slows down the signs of premature aging. And yes you are still exposed to skin stressors when you’re inside all day - so even if you work in an office you still need to be using sunscreen every day!

Exfoliate

There really is nothing quite like that post-exfoliant glow. Depending on your skin type and its tolerance levels, you should be aiming to use an exfoliant around 2-4 times per week. Like all things skincare, consistency is key and if you keep using it consistently you should notice your skin will start to appear more even and less congested.

You’ll come across two different exfoliators in life – physical exfoliants (think face scrubs) and chemical exfoliants (think acids and peels). While there’s no definitive answer about which is ‘better’ than the other, at Caci, we can’t go past a good peel. For an all-rounder, the Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser is just *a chef's kiss* and suits nearly all skin types.

Vitamin-C

We know it, we love it. Vitamin C is one of the best ingredients you can incorporate into your skincare for a year-round glow. The superpower of vitamin C is its ability to neutralise free radicals which can lead to premature signs of aging and skin damage. So, by incorporating it into your skincare regime you can prevent fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and pigmentation.

Moisturiser

Another absolute essential to glow is to keep your skin adequately hydrated. There are a myriad of moisturisers available, so it’s best to suit one that fits your overall skin type and individual skin goals.

In the mornings, try reaching for something that has SPF in it as this is a great way to tick off two of your skincare steps in one. In the evening you can opt for a thicker consistency for a more intensive glow-up. The Murad Intense Recovery Cream is perfect for use before bed and is also a must-have for dry skin types.

Fractional Co2 Laser

Fractional CO2 Laser uses a carbon dioxide laser that works to tighten, resurface, and strengthen the skin by removing small plugs of skin. This process helps to address skin elasticity, scarring and fine lines and wrinkles. The small areas of the skin are removed and promote healing. This pulls the skin together and strengthens its integrity. The healing process is the part that helps to create more collagen.
