As the colder months draw closer, a tweak to our routine is in order, including our skincare! Your skin may be feeling the effects of summer and it's no surprise that tanning, sun-induced dehydration and the days at the beach can leave it's mark. For some, this may lead to pigmentation or breakouts. The good news is that the cooler temperature is the perfect time to address your post-summer skin.
We asked Linda, Caci’s National Skincare Trainer on her top tips for refreshing your summer skin routine. You don't need to change your skincare overnight as that can make it harder for your skin to adjust to the changes, start by gradually reintroducing textures and new additions as autumn approaches.
Cleanse
As the seasons change, so does your skin. Start by swapping out your gel cleanser for a cream cleanser. During summer, we love that squeaky clean, fresh feeling as we experience more oil production and congestion due to the heat and SPF. However, as the weather cools down, so does your oil production and using a gel or foaming cleanser can strip the skin and leave your skin feeling dry and irritated. Try our Murad Renewing Cleansing Cream to gently remove impurities and gently exfoliate without drying the skin.
Treat
Antioxidants are vital in summer to protect the skin from photodamage like dark spots, redness and fine lines. As the season changes to Autumn swap your antioxidant serums to a treatment serum to target some of the damage that occurred over the summer period.
For example, swap out your Murad Vita-C Glycolic Serum for the Murad Rapid Dark Spot Correcting Serum or the Skinsmiths PRO Strength Niacinamide to target dark spots, texture and skin tone.
Hydrate
Start focusing on hydration, swap your light lotions for a cream moisturiser. Moisturisers are based on your skin type, so, if you are oilier (like during summer) lotions are great. But as the days get colder your skin will get dryer. Swap your Murad Nutrient-Charged Water Gel for the Murad Restorative Hydro-Hyaluronic Cream. Rather than changing your lotion, you can also add a hydrating skin booster or oil, like the Murad Cellular Hydration Barrier Repair Oil Drops or the Skinsmiths Ultimate Renewal Serum, to your regime.
SPF
Believe it or not, SPF can also be based on your skin type and needs to be used all year around! During summer, SPF with antioxidants and a lighter texture is great, but as the cooler weather approaches, switch over to a moisturising SPF or a mineral SPF. The Murad Superactive Moisturiser SPF 50: Brightening or Skinsmiths Daily Mineral Defence SPF 40 for a boost of hydration and glowy skin.
